In the Career Charts assignment, I used Excel to construct bar charts on three separate tabs of my spreadsheet. First, I made an organized visual of my data for my top three careers from my Career Research. Next, I used information that I previously had and put the projected job growth, educational level needed, and median or average salary for each of my three chosen careers. I then made bar charts for each of the three categories so that I could compare the data for each career side-by-side. When constructing my charts, I formatted them with different tools to enhance the appearance. I experimented with bar colors, background colors, fading, transparency, 3D, and many other effects. I made each bar color correspond to its particular career so that it would be easy to follow from one chart to the next. I finally used different text formatting like rotation of the axis titles, and even setting up the proper labels themselves. I think I accomplished the goal of making the appearance attractive and easy to read. I believe I went above and beyond on the first sheet of just the basic information by organizing it into charts. What I would do differently to improve this assignment would be to change the background fills because although they are "cute", they're not very professional, and may be a little distracting for this type of data, if it were to be presented to an audience.
My Glogster Ad
As of my last week of high school classes, I have just completed my final assignment for a career advertisement using Glogster Education. Glogster is a website for anyone ranging from teachers, students, to businesses to create posters to broadcast a message. The website is easy to use and pretty self-explantory for 21st century students to use. My poster was advertising Marriage and Family Therapy, a career which I wish to pursue. I learned how to organize "clip art" -like images to create an attractive poster with an attention drawing background, and important information. Something new I also learned from this was how to upload a website URL to create a link, which could be retrieved by clicking the clip-art/image containing information. The link opened itself up as a pop-up, and is generally a convenient way for adversiting and learning. I feel that I made the poster very attractive and truly related the images I chose to my career, in a way that was appropriate and relevant. I also really focused on the information that I included on stamps. By doing so, I didn't deviate from the true purpose of the advertisement. What I would do differently looking back now, is stick with a color theme, because a realistic poster for adults to view, wouldn't typically be as playful as the one I created. Then, there would be nothing distracting from my message.
